Baltimore Riots Highlight the Failed Liberal Policies of the Democrat Party

Barack Obama, our first black President, was elected on a “Hope and Change” campaign. Obama was going to right all wrongs, repair race relations and make all the countries around the world love us. The problem is that he left the failed liberal policies of the last 50 years intact. He even doubled down on them by adding a new entitlement, Obamacare, and adding millions of Americans to the welfare rolls. He has promoted the victimology of blacks and claims that racism is pervasive in our nation’s police forces.

The riots in Baltimore are not about racial injustice. Baltimore is led by a black mayor. The police chief is black. The nation’s President is black. No this is more about opportunity, the opportunity to loot and destroy property. Just as in Ferguson many of the rioters are not from Baltimore. Radical groups like the New Black Panthers are usually the organizing force behind the destruction and rioting. Blacks have voted in lock step for Democrats and have received nothing in return. As a matter of fact they are worse off than ever. Here is why:

Failed Liberal Policies of the Democrat Party
• Encourage and celebrate single parent families, ridicule old fashioned two parent families

• Teaching blacks that they are victims and cannot succeed without government help

• Teaching blacks that they need the help of affirmative action to get in college or get a job creating disincentives for hard work and create a sense of entitlement

• Policies designed to preserve teachers union monopoly on school systems and prevent competition resulting in poor educational results

• Destroy the work ethic by creating generational welfare and constantly extending unemployment benefits

• Encourage blacks to live in big cities to protect their votes

• Encouraging the infanticide of the black race with abortion

• Chip away at the moral fabric of America with a war on religion.

• Pass legislation like minimum wage which disproportionately affects our youth, especially minorities.

• Pass legislation like the earned income tax credit which hurts the poor and dis-incentivizes work.

• Support waves of illegal aliens which takes jobs away from minorities and teaches them that laws have no meaning

• Focusing on helping criminals rather than the victims and demonizing police forces as racists (especially since Obama has taken office)

Maybe it is time for real change.

Is Opposing School Vouchers Racist?

The free market is a wonderful thing when it is allowed to operate unfettered by obstacles. Take for instance the world of personal computers.  IBM’s first personal computer (pc) was the Model 5120 released in early 1980. It weighed about 100 pounds and came with 64 kilobytes of RAM, a 16 bit processor, a 9 inch black and white monitor and two floppy drives. It did not have a hard drive.  It sold for $13,500 which is about $40,000 in today’s dollars! This caused a boom in companies competing to make the best PC.  Innovation exploded and as the pcs became more powerful they became cheaper. Contrast  IBM’s first PC  with today’s PCs that sport a dual core 64 bit processor, 16 gigabytes of RAM, a 128 gigabyte boot hard drive and a terabyte data hard drive, a 27” flat screen monitor and much more for about $2,300.

Now imagine what would have happened if the federal government decided that everyone should have an IBM PC. IBM would have a huge captive market with little or no incentive to change. Costs would go up, not down and quality would decline. There would be little innovation. Does anyone believe that we would be able to buy PCs as described above at 17 times less than the original model in today’s dollars? Not a chance.

This is easy for most people to understand. They see similar stories in other industries such as the television industry. But when it comes to our education system most are blind. The government pays for primary and secondary education for anyone who wants it.  The schools are operated by state and local governments and are staffed by teachers unions. The federal government provides funding help to the states which gives them control over the schools. The schools have little incentive to improve since they have a captive market. They block any measure to allow competition in the system.  This is due in large part because of the dominance of the unions in the school system. To compound matters, the unions collect dues from their members and use these dues to fund the Democrat Party. In turn The Democrat Party fights any attempts at real reform and competition.

The results are predictable.  In the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) ‘s 2014 report the US ranked 24th in reading, 36th in math and 28th in science.  Even more disturbing is the fact that the trend data show no significant changes in the average performance of U.S. 15-year-old students in the mathematics, reading and science over time. “The Nations Report Card’s” 2013 study revealed that only 34% of 8th graders in public schools are proficient in math as compared to 47% in private schools.  Only 34% of 8th graders in public schools are proficient in reading as compared to 57% in private schools.

The left always blame lack of funding for our poor results. The facts are contrary to this oft repeated myth.  In 2010 the USA spent $11,826 per FTE student per year. The OECD average in 2010 was $9,803. Of the 35 countries in the comparison only three countries spend more than us. Japan, which ranked 4th in reading and 7th in math spent $9,168 in 2010. Korea, ranked 5th in both math and reading spent $7,396 during the same timeframe. In 2013 the average tuition for private schools (elementary and secondary) was $10,740, about 10% less than the 2010 level of spending for public schools.

The truth is that we are not preparing our children for college or for life. This is especially true for minorities. Only one in four high school students graduate ready for college in all four core subjects (English, reading, math and science), which is why a third of students entering college have to take remedial courses. Only 4 percent of African American students and 11 percent of Hispanic students finish high school ready for college in their core subjects.

So what do we do? How about allowing parents to choose where their children go to school. Competition is a good thing. Parents will choose schools that do the best to prepare students either for work or higher education. Parents who are more affluent do this now, paying private tuition even though they pay high taxes to support public schools. Low and middle class families are unable to afford private schools. A simple idea is to give parents school vouchers to use in their school of choice. As seen above issuing vouchers at today’s spending will open up the choice to most private schools. The Democrat Party, the party of choice, is steadfastly opposed to this for a couple of reasons. First and foremost is that they do not want to reduce the size and level of control of the government. Also they want to protect the teachers’ unions to retain their votes and their funding stream. The biggest losers to this obstruction are Blacks, Hispanics and lower class white families.

Fundamental Change

Imagine this.

A high school (let’s call it Team USA) has a football team that has won state championships for the last 10 years. Their longtime coach announced his retirement.  A young energetic man is hired to replace him. He gives several speeches before his first season apologizing for Team USA because they have been unsportsmanlike for many years, winning many games and with high margins of victory. He says that Team USA is not exceptional but rather are just another high school team, no better or worse than the rest.

He convenes his players for his first season. He tells the players that he is here to fundamentally change the team. He said don’t expect big margins of victories, that hurts the self-esteem of our opponents. Winning is not everything. We will try to contain our opponents, holding them from scoring but will refrain from fielding an intrusive and aggressive offense.

He announces the starting line-up. The 3 year all-state starter at quarterback is on the bench, replaced by a freshman with no experience at quarterback (Suzie Ryce).  The all state middle linebacker and defensive captain is on the bench, replaced by a sophomore weighing 50 pounds less than the captain (Johnnie Carry). The speedy tailback has been replaced with a frumpy slow sophomore (Hillary Clintstone). Coach points out that there are about the same number of starters from each class and an equal number of girls and boys which is much fairer than past teams.

The season ended with a disappointing 0-9 record. The coach calls it a great year, saying we achieved all of our goals. He says to expect future seasons to resemble this one. The fans are outraged. The school principal stands by his coach and exclaims that the fans “are just not capable of understanding “.

Nah, would never happen…….

The Ferguson Opportunity

President Obama is using the Ferguson incident to further his agenda and to cover up his dismal failures as President.
obama-swearing-in-2009-bible-thumb-640xauto-7454When he called for a summit at the White House to discuss Ferguson and did not include the Ferguson police but did include Al Sharpton his lack of resolve to solve problems, real or perceived, was exposed.

If Obama wanted to find solutions he would not be singularly focused on the police. The policeman was not charged with anything based on overwhelming evidence.  A serious effort to avoid these rare but tragic incidents would involve digging into the “community” issues. Obama could have shown real leadership by condemning the lack of respect shown by Brown when asked to get out of the street and condemning all citizens, black or white, for resisting arrest. Furthermore he should have condemned the violence in Ferguson. If Michael Brown complied with a simple request he would still be alive and probably robbing stores again.

The bigger picture of the black community is the desperation of lack of job opportunities, the failed education system, high abortion rate and the decay of the black family unit. Black unemployment peaked at over 17% and is about 11% for adults and 21% for 16-to-19-year-old teenagers, the highest jobless rate of any minority group in the U.S. This is understated due to the large number of people that are not counted because they dropped out of the hunt for a job.

President Obama has the sworn duty to protect the Constitution and uphold the laws of our country. Eric Holder ERIC HOLDER-AP PHOTO-CROPPEDhas the same responsibilities. Both have chosen to disregard those duties and have joined the race industry opportunists like Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, et al.  The big losers are the black community but sadly they will continue to vote in their slave masters.

Global Warming Does Not Meet Science Test

#tcot, Democrat Party, global warming

A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that is acquired through the scientific method, and repeatedly confirmed through observation and experimentation. As with most (if not all) forms of scientific knowledge, scientific theories are inductive — that is, they seek to supply strong evidence for but not absolute proof of the truth of the conclusion—and they aim for predictive and explanatory force.

The defining characteristic of all scientific knowledge, including theories, is the ability to make falsifiable or testable predictions. The relevance and specificity of those predictions determine how potentially useful the theory is. A would-be theory that makes no observable predictions is not a useful theory. Predictions not sufficiently specific to be tested are similarly not useful. In both cases, the term “theory” is hardly applicable.

Many Democrats have stated that man-made global warming is a fact, that the science is clear. The truth is that it really does not even qualify to be called a hypothesis. It does not meet the observation test, nor does it meet the experimentation tests. In reality the entire “body of science” (I use that term very loosely) is based solely on computer models. Computer models would be acceptable science if they were able to predict weather accurately in back testing simulations. In other words, if you run the model for 1900 through 2013 it should accurately predict global temperatures, hurricanes, and all that is predicted now by the future models. No computer model for global warming has ever successfully done that.

We just experienced the coldest weather in 102 years. If global warming existed as the politicians and scientists on their payroll say the graph would be a steadily increasing trend. It is time to recognize global warming for what it is, a contrived political tool.
