Are You Better Off Under President Obama?

At an event in Denver today (7/19/2014), President Obama made a one of the most ridiculous claims of his Presidency, that America is better off than when he took office, “by almost every measure.” I wonder what he had in mind. Of course his lap dog press won’t press him on it.

Here are some very important measures that we are worse off since he has been in office.

1. The number of Americans 16 and older who did not participate in the labor force climbed to a record high of 92,120,000 in June, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The labor force participation rate for Americans was 62.8 percent, matching a 36-year low. The participation rate is the percentage of the population that either has a job or actively sought one in the last four weeks. The number of women 16 and older not in the labor force climbed to a record high of 55,299,000 in June, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

2. The debt of the U.S. government has increased $6.7 trillion since President Barack Obama took office in 2009, according to the Treasury Department. In the little more than five years of the Obama presidency, the U.S. has accumulated as much new debt as it did in it’s first 227 years.

3. Obama’s first 4 years in office were the worst four years of GDP growth in history. Looking at the economy in 10-year increments starting from 1948 (when declines from wartime spending had ended), averaging GDP’s annual growth percentage shows the following:
• 1948-57: 3.80%
• 1958-67: 4.28%
• 1968-77: 3.18%
• 1978-87: 3.15%
• 1988-97: 3.05%
• 1998-2007: 2.99%
• 2008-2013: 0.73%

4. The number of major federal regulations issued in the first five years of the Obama administration was 153.2% higher than during the first five years of the Bush administration, according to data from the Heritage Foundation.
5. Gasoline prices at end of Bush term, $1.87 per gallon. Gas prices now under Obama, $3.85. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the average American driver logs 13,476 miles each year. Cars and light trucks sold in the United States hit a new record for fuel efficiency last year — 23.6 miles per gallon, on average. Using that data the average American’s cost for gasoline increased by over $1,100 per year under Obama.

6. A record 46.7 million Americans — or roughly one in five adults — used food stamps in 2013, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). This is an increase of 19.4 million people since 2008, a 68% increase. The cost of the program in 2013 was $79.9 trillion as compared to $37.6 trillion in 2008, a 112% increase.

7. When the Obama era began, the average duration of unemployment in this country was 19.8 weeks. Today, it is 36.6 weeks.

8. Since Obama has been president, seven out of every eight jobs that have been “created” in the U.S. economy have been part-time jobs.

9. The number of full-time workers in the United States is still nearly 6 million below the old record that was set back in 2007.

10. Median household income in America has fallen for four consecutive years. Overall, it has declined by over $4,000 during that time span.

11. In the last five years under this president more babies have been aborted than jobs have been created.

12. The seasonally-adjusted price index for meats, poultry, fish, and eggs hit an all-time high in May, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). “The index for meats, poultry, fish and eggs has risen 7.7 percent over the span [last year],” says the BLS.

13. For the youth of America, the Obama years have been a nightmare, an index of youth misery shows. The Young America’s Foundation (YAF) compiles this indicator for the young in the U.S. – and it’s reached an historic high under the Obama administration. When youth unemployment, average graduating student debt, and national debt per capita are combined, the number for this year is a record 98.6. That’s also an 18.1 percent increase under Obama – the largest increase under any president, YAF says.

14. When Obama first became president, 12.5 million Americans had manufacturing jobs. Today, only 11.9 million Americans have manufacturing jobs.

15. Health insurance costs have risen by 29 percent since Barack Obama became president, and Obamacare is going to make things far worse.

16. When Barack Obama was first elected, the U.S. debt to GDP ratio was under 70 percent. Today, it is up to 101 percent.

17. Electricity bills in the United States have risen faster than the overall rate of inflation for five years in a row.

18. When Obama was elected, the homeownership rate in the United States was 67.5 percent. Today, it is 65.0 percent. That is the lowest that it has been in 18 years.

19. At this point, more than a million public school students in the United States are homeless. This is the first time that has ever happened in our history. That number has risen by 57 percent since the 2006-2007 school year.

20. The poverty rate has shot up to 16.1 percent. That is actually higher than when the War on Poverty began in 1965.
