The Democrats have repeatedly used the argument that Obamacare is the law of the land to squash Republican efforts to defund it or modify it. Its settled law so we can’t oppose it. I guess they are re-inventing government. So let’s stop any debate on amnesty for illegal aliens. We have laws to protect our border, so that is that. Same for gun control, we have plenty of “laws of the land”, so let’s stop wasting time debating new gun laws. And we have settled law on the definition of marriage so let’s stop tinkering with that as well.

They also use the tired argument that there was an election and Obama won so we should just allow him to do whatever he wants. Well yes there was an election in the House of Representatives. Does that election matter? Many elected to Congress ran on repealing Obamacare.

I don’t think Americans want to throw out the system of checks and balances in our government. A split government is probably best but requires the President to be a leader. The President has not been a leader. The majority of Americans do not want Obamacare. It is reasonable that Obama and Harry Reid work out a compromise with Republicans. Obama said he would negotiate if the debt ceiling is raised. John Boehner has proposed to raise it temporarily to accommodate his request. Let’s hope he is a man of his word on this pledge at least.
